Max is a black belt and a UKCC Level 2 coach, Max like many young Pro Judo members started competing at club events and domestic events. Since then he has went on to win many domestic tournaments, including the British Championships in various age groups and weight categories.

Here is Max’s favourite technique, Judo player:

  • Technique : Uchi Mata
  • Judo Player : Toshihiko Koga
  • Favourite Judo Moment : One of many memories which is special to me was when I won the European Trials which secured my selection to represent Team GB at the Youth Olympics and European Cadet Championships.

I started Judo when I was 9 after my coach Brian delivered a taster session at my former primary school. Brian’s passionate coaching style and infectious love for the sport led to me joining the club. Judo helped me gain confidence and enabled me to utilise my energy and express myself freely.

Once I got a taste for competitive Judo, I instantly fell in love with the Sport. I attended Judo sessions at the club 4-5 times a week and went on to win the British Boys Championships. Judo naturally became a way of life for me.

I was training full time for a number of years at the Scottish National Training centre in Edinburgh, along with David, Rachel and Jack. We travelled around the world with the Scottish Squad and competed in various International Tournaments.

Now as a coach, I embrace my passion for Sport to help others have fun, be active, and to channel the confidence gained from participation into broader life ambitions. I strive to make a positive impact on the overall health and wellbeing of children and young people through the Sport of Judo.

Outside judo, I am a keen musician. I’m a singer-songwriter and play the guitar. My hobbies include hill walking and playing chess.
